He parked two blocks away from my place and walked me to my door. I hoped that meant he would come up, but when we reached my stoop it was clear that he wouldn’t.
“Did you have a nice time?” he asked as he brushed a stray curl away from my face.
These little gestures of affection…they’re a sticky web. I like them too much and I’ll find myself caught if I’m not careful.
“Wonderful. How about you? Did you have a good time parading me around like I belong to you?”
“You noticed that?”
I nodded. He blushed.
“You’re not offended are you?”
“No, I liked it. It felt good belonging to someone. Even if it was only for a few hours.” I bit my lip, pissed at myself for having let that slip.
“It doesn’t have to be that way—”
“Yes, it does,” I interrupted. “I’m not a relationship girl.”
“No, you’re just a girl who is afraid of relationships.”
I grabbed a handful of his hair and pulled him close to me. “You think you’re so clever,” I whispered on his mouth.
“I’m glad you noticed. I work real hard to get you to notice.” He drew his lips across mine, kissing me with his breath and nothing more. “I’m sorry to have sprung all of this on you like this. I know it’s a lot to handle, but I didn’t know how to tell you.”
“I was okay until the whipping post. Everything else was really sexy.”
He smiled wistfully. “I know it was sexy. I know it turned you on, but that’s not why I took you to The Den tonight.”
“Why did you take me?”
“I had to. I had to let you know that this isn’t something I want to do every now and again. This is me, Yvie. This is the man I am. I can’t just fuck you. I can’t be your prince charming—”
“I don’t want you to be—”
“Yes, you do. I see how you look at me. You think I’m your great white hope.” He said it in jest, but I could tell he meant it. “Also, I wanted to let you know that it wasn’t you. I’ve wanted you since the moment I laid eyes on you. I just…I can’t keep making the same mistakes. I can’t get involved with another person who isn’t completely into this or isn’t able to accept this part of me.”
“I accept it.”
“Do you? Because accepting it means that you realize that I want to do all those things to you. Everything you saw tonight. Everything and more. I want to do them all to you, Yvie. Do you accept that?”
“I want to.”
He smiled. Too many teeth. He looked like a predator. My heart kicked in my chest.
“You’re terrified by the thought of it.”
“I am terrified by some parts of it—”
“And what would you say if I told you knowing that it scares you turns me on? ”
His brow furrowed, and he took on that observant, intense look again. “You’re even more afraid now, aren’t you?”
There was no point in lying. “What gave me away?”
“These big hazel eyes of yours,” he said and kissed both my eyelids gently.
“So what happens now? You just dump this heavy shit on my doorstep and walk away, huh?”
“Exactly,” he said with a laugh. “I have to say that I’m a bit surprised though.”
“Really? About what?”
“Your reaction to the whipping post. I guess I didn’t realize you were so sensitive.”
“Who’s sensitive? It was that expensive
He narrowed his eyes at me. “Seriously? You’re blaming your behavior on the alcohol?”
“What do you mean?”
He moved in dangerously close. I pressed my back into the door to keep our bodies from touching. I didn’t know why I was running away from him, when a moment ago I would’ve begged him to come to my bed. My reaction was purely instinctual. Something about him made me wary. And the thinly veiled merriment in his eyes told me he was gobbling it up.
“Sometimes our bodies have a way of signaling wants and desires we never knew we had. Sometimes that signal can cause a physical reaction that is so strong that you can’t understand or control it. It’s perfectly natural. Just as it’s natural for you to envision yourself being tied down and fucked or like that woman tonight…naked, shackled to that post, begging for every lash of the tawse—”
“No, I would never want a thing like that.”
“Oh, you want it. I can see it in your eyes.”
“I’m no submissive. I don’t want to be abused—”
“Who said anything about abuse? ”
“I…” but I’d run out of protests.
Elijah moved in closer. I held my breath. His full lips spread into a feral grin as he cupped my cheek in his hand. He brushed his mouth against mine. His breath puffed against my lips, causing a dull ache of longing between my thighs.
“You would be a joy to break,” he whispered. “Just the thought of you wet, sweaty, and quivering at my feet makes me so fucking hot.” And then his mouth was on mine. The kiss was all hunger and naked lust. Both hands cradled my skull, held me delicately while he feasted on my mouth. He was so slow and deliberate and so full of intensity that I found myself whimpering each time his tongue passed over mine. This kiss was too damn good. My sex-depraved body felt like it was climbing toward orgasm. He pulled away slowly. Punishing my lips with little nibbles before backing away.
“Good night, Yves.”
