Writing can be one of the most solitary activities…
I’m often surprised by how enriching the world and characters that I have created can be. Truth be told, I would rather spend time with them than in the real world more times than not. But when I find my characters uncooperative or my plot is full of holes I can’t seem to fill, I like to talk it out with my favorite writing buddy, Kate. Sometimes a good FaceTime session with her will help me hash it all out and it is much easier than trying to work through it on my own.
However, I know how it can be hard to find that good writing buddy to gab with on a random Friday night. And that’s why I created #50for50.
50 pages + 50 bucks. #50for50 is a structural edit of the first fifty pages to help romance authors jumpstart a new project, or breath life into a stagnant one.
What is a structural edit?
A structural edit is a deep edit–whether structural, stylistic, or copy editing, and is typically a combination of the three. Structural editing focuses on logical organization and flow of content to render your document clear, concise, and easy to read at the sentence, paragraph, and chapter levels. A structural edit will ensure your characters are well drawn and realistic, your plot develops in a compelling fashion, and your narrative is entertaining and readable.
Why the first 50 pages?
The first 50 pages are usually the first act which contains the hook, character introduction, setting that grounds the reader in the world that you have created, and it also hints at the central conflict. In short, if you can’t make them give a fuck in those first 50 pages, they will close the book!
In the #50for50 you will get:
- detailed notes on overall readability, including an emphasis on genre expectations on your first 50 pages.
- in-depth, character dissection using archetypes and GMC (goal, motivation, conflict), dialogue, and cultural sensitivity.
- detailed plot structuring for your first act to determine your story arc based on the 50 pages you shared with me.
- 30% discount when you schedule a copyedit for your completed manuscript.
